Working Holiday

The Working Holiday visa for New Zealand gives young people from countries with exchange agreements in place the opportunity to travel around New Zealand and take temporary work while they are there.

For the majority of participating countries, the Working Holiday Visa for New Zealand is valid for 12 months. However certain participating countries have slightly different conditions.

To be eligible you must:

  • be ordinarily resident in your country of citizenship and have a passport for that country that is valid for at least three months after your planned departure from New Zealand
  • be aged between 18 and 30 years of age
  • not bring any children with you
  • hold a return ticket, or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket*
  • have a minimum of NZ$4,200 available funds to meet your living costs while you are in New Zealand
  • meet the health and character requirements (for temporary stay)
  • be going to New Zealand to holiday, with work being a secondary intention for your visit
  • not have been approved a visa or permit under a Working Holiday Scheme before.

*You are required to hold sufficient funds for the duration of your visit and for the purchase of an outward ticket from New Zealand. Such evidence may be requested on arrival at the border.

The following countries have exchange program agreements with New Zealand for the Working Holiday:

  • Argentina
  • Belgium
  • Canada
