Should you have an offer employment from an accredited employer in New Zealand, you can make an application for a work visa or permit for up to 30 months under this work policy. Once you have worked in New Zealand for an accredited employer for a minimum of two years you may apply for residence.

Accredited employers are employers that have been pre-approved by Immigration New Zealand as having a need for skilled or talented workers from overseas. It is possible for an employer to become accredited. To do this they have to provide evidence that:

• They are financially viable,
• They are committed to training and employing New Zealanders,
• They have sound human resource and workplace policies and practices.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements including health and character, you must be 55 years of age or under when you make an application for the work visa or permit and have obtained either full or provisional registration in New Zealand (if applicable).

Your offer of employment must meet certain requirements. It must be a genuine offer of employment from an accredited employer. The employment must:

• Be full time (on average, at least 30 hours a week)
• Be for at least two years
• Have an annual base salary of at least NZ$50,000 (gross)
• Be in the employer’s main business activity, and where they are directly responsible for your output
• Meet the requirements of New Zealand's employment laws
• Be current at the time your application for a work visa or permit is assessed.
